With a sophisticated optical design and chic retro styling, the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.5 VM aspherical Type I Vintage Line Lens (Black) combines portability with style and image quality. This slightly wide, standard focal length prime lens is designed for film and digital Leica M rangefinders, but is equally at home mounted onto other mirrorless camera systems when using the appropriate Voigtlander lens converter. There are limitless subjects suitable for a 35mm lens, from portraits and landscapes, to street, city and travel.
Voigtlander’s optical designed is derived of 9 lens elements arranged into 6 groups, with two double-sided aspherical elements responsible for much of the high image quality at any aperture. Despite housing advanced optics, the aluminium all-metal barrel design is both lightweight and stylish, weighing just 188g and measuring 36mm long, ideal for travel and handheld shooting.
The thread to add lens filters is a compact 39mm, while a close 0.5m minimum focusing distance offers versatility and is shorter than the 0.7m linked to the rangefinder (depending on the camera).

The NOKTON Vintage Line 35mm F1.5 Aspherical is a wide-angle interchangeable lens from the Voigtländer brand, designed exclusively for the full-size chip VM mount.
This lens integrates three characteristics: small size, excellent optical performance, as well as a large aperture. As the standard lens on rangefinder cameras, the 35mm focal length is a popular choice and Voigtländer currently offers five different 35mm VM lenses, each with its own characteristics.
The lens barrel, with a modern classic design, is equipped with a 6-group, 9-element optical system featuring two double-sided aspheric lenses, which provide excellent optical performance at all apertures.
Two styles are available including this Type I aluminium design and Type II, made of brass weighing 284g for a sturdy and substantial feeling, with a finish choice of either black or silver.

Our Verdict
Voigtlander has a number of highly regarded VM lenses available for the Leica mount with this Nokton 35mm f/1.5 VM aspherical Type I Vintage Line lens joining their selection. The entire premise for the Type I is to combine portability with image quality, regardless of whether you shoot film or digital. To meet these requirements the 35mm f/1.5 VM has a wide maximum aperture, with 12 aperture blades, two double sided aspherical lens elements and an aluminium all-metal construction.
The results are excellent at any aperture from a compact lens, which measures just 36mm long and weighs in at 188g to balance portability with quality. Bokeh is pleasing and you can achieve extremely fine focus from the manual ring to capture a shallow depth of field and separate your subject from distractions. A close minimum focus of 0.5m adds to the versatility of this classic focal length, with a slightly wide angle 61.7° field of view. This is perfect for anything from landscapes to portraits and as a walk-around lens for street photography and many more subjects.
If you shoot with a Leica rangefinder this lens makes a desirable addition to any set-up, which can also be mounted onto other mirrorless camera systems using the appropriate lens converter.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
