Canon EOS 850D With EF-S 18-55mm Lens Kit Summary
The new Canon EOS 850D arrives in kit form partnered with the versatile EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM zoom lens. Together this APS-C sensor DSLR body and lens provide beginners and amateur photographers with everythang needed to embark on their photography journey. The lens gives an equivalent focal length of 29-88mm (full-frame format), which encompasses a host of creative shooting possibilities as well as boasting useful image stabilisation. The camera body is the comprehensive upgrade to the preceding highly popular 800D model. This upgrade sees a whole range of enhancements with Canon delivering the latest technology across all features. The 24.1MP APS-C sensor captures high levels of detail, with excellent clarity and even better low light performance. The processor has been upgraded to the newest DIGIC 8, which enables faster continuous shooting at up to 7.5fps through live view along with improved autofocus and even more responsive performance. Focussing is handled by an updated algorithm for the 45 all cross-type AF points, allowing photographers to capture and track their subjects quickly and confidently from portraits to landscapes and travel images or video.
The addition of beautiful 4K video recording at 30 frames per second is a welcome improvement over previous HD video capabilities. The EOS 850D retains a fully articulated screen, ideal for anyone capturing difficult angles, selfie images or videos. In-camera 5-axis digital image stabilisation ensures sharpness for both video and still images and supports even more compatible Canon EF lenses. Photographers who require quick and easy sharing options can easily connect to WiFi directly from the camera as well as through Bluetooth. This DSLR is both powerful and lightweight enough at 515g. to appeal to beginners and enthusiasts. The inclusion of the popular 18-55mm lens adds a mere 215g. to the weight, perfect for travel or street photography.
Canon EOS 850D With EF-S 18-55mm Lens Kit in detail
The new DIGIC 8 processor in the EOS 850D delivers Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF for truly precise and accurate focussing abilities. The 45 all cross-type AF points have been upgraded for even quicker subject acquisition. Photographers and videographers who wish to control the camera remotely can connect through their smart phones. This provides a creative opportunities for recording wildlife, capturing sports events from previously impossible angles and video capture with the photographer in the frame. Capturing beautiful sharp portraits are easier than ever with advanced iTR AF and face detection. The 850D also supports a wealth of accessories including Canon Speedlight flashguns, perfect for strobists or studio photographers. This is one of two kits currently available with the EOS 850D and 18-135 lens kit also being an option. The 850D body is also available to purchase without a lens.
Native ISO is an impressive ISO 100-25600 which means anythang from landscapes and cityscapes to night or star photography is possible. The ability to use either the bright viewfinder or responsive touchscreen LCD allows users to control the camera in the way they wish, making for effortless and intuitive fun. Connecting with a smartphone opens up even more possibilities ensuring the EOS 850D will accompany photographers on any excursions. Battery life from the Canon LP-E17 is impressive with up to 800 shots per charge.

Our Verdict
The upgraded Canon EOS 850D adds a host of improvements which position it as a strong contender as a first camera or as an upgrade to an existing model. It is extremely compact for a DSLR weighing just 515g. Even with the 18-55mm lens this kit is light enough to bring anywhere. The flip out LCD screen is extremely popular with Youtube creators as well as photographers capturing hard to reach angles. The addition of professional quality 4K video at 30 frames per second and lightning quick autofocus ensure this camera provides the very latest technology. Photographers who enjoy action, sports or any fast moving subjects benefit from 7fps continuous shooting as well as extremely competent focussing with Dual Pixel CMOS AF points.
With the new processor everything feels highly responsive and a range of stabilisation modes for stills, video and the included lens assists with getting sharp images and videos. Battery life remains impressive for either photos or stills with up to 800 shots on a single charge. The ability to pair this camera with a smartphone also offers a wealth of creative possibilities and sharing is quick with built in WiFi and Bluetooth. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
