NEWS: On 02 November 2022, DJI launched the Mavic 3 Classic Drone in three variants, packed with powerful flight capabilities and advanced imaging features for content creators. Learn all about the highly capable camera drone in our photography news channel to discover whether it’s time for you to buy the flagship aircraft for your content. The new drone arrives almost precisely one year after the DJI Mavic 3, but what’s the difference and which should you get?

News hot off the press DJI Launches Mavic 3 Classic Drone

How much is the DJI Mavic 3 Classic?

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is available in three different variants, with the aircraft-only DJI Mavic 3 Classic price of £1,309.00, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic costs £1,399.00 and includes the RC-N1 controller. Finally the flagship drone is available as a DJI Mavic 3 Classic with DJI RC for £1,529.00.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic Vs DJI Mavic 3

When compared with the previously released Mavic 3, which features in our DJI Mavic 3 Review, we can see around £400 price difference, but what makes the original drone more expensive? It comes down to the Explore mode, designed to scout locations and zoom in with 28x Hybrid Zoom camera.

This feature is omitted from the newer Mavic 3 Classic, however all three new variants include all of the other features and capabilities, with 5.1K/50fps video and 20 megapixel RAW images. Feedback for DJI suggested many content creators didn’t require the ability to zoom in and DJI has responded with a more cost-effective way of capturing the same high image quality and enjoy the same flight capabilities.

Best DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone features

The key features included with the original and newly released DJI Mavic 3 Classic include:

  • Hasselblad developed camera
  • 4/3 CMOS sensor which has been calibrated
  • 20 megapixel 12-bit RAW images
  • Record 5.1K/50fps and 4K/120fps
  • 10-bit D-Log profile using HLG
  • Up to 46 minute flight time per battery
  • APAS 5.0 Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing
  • 8km HD Video Transmission
  • Advanced Return to Home (RTH)
  • Night Shots mode optimised for low light

These are aimed at advanced content creators as well as catering for those who are newer to piloting. Flying is easier with Mavic 3 drones because of effective APAS 5.0, cruise control and updated auto-return, which allows the Mavic 3 Classic to automatically determine the optimal route back to home.

What’s the difference between Mavic 3 Classic drones?

With three different drones to choose from you may be wondering which is the best for you. Firstly, the No RC is for anyone who has an existing compatible remote controller, whether an RC-N1, DJI RC or DJI RC Pro. The DJI Mavic 3 Classic comes with the RC-N1 and the DJI Mavic 3 Classic with DJI RC features the newly updated DJI RC.

This DJI RC provides the best flight experience thanks to the bright screen (700-nits), with long battery life and O3+ Transmission compatibility, although some users do prefer the useability of the RC-N1 controller.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic accessories

Anyone joining the DJI ecosystem will be impressed by the number of useful drone accessories, which you can add to make the most of your flights. Some are essential when out on the road, such as the extra battery and car charger in the DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Kit.

This particular Fly More kit is compatible with the new releases as well as the original DJI Mavic 3 Drone, whereas other accessories like the Mavic 3 Classic Storage Cover and Mavic 3 Classic ND Filters Set will only fit the Classic drones.

Which Mavic 3 Classic photo and content modes are available?

DJI is renowned for designing easy-to-use features which help content creators make better content more easily and the Mavic 3 Classic follows this trend with:

  • ActiveTrack 5.0
  • MasterShots
  • QuickShots
  • Hyperlapse
  • Panorama
  • High-Speed QuickTransfer

Each streamlines the process of capturing epic content, with tracking and automatic shooting in order to create professional-looking content with just a couple of taps. Whether you have a Youtube channel or create footage for clients these are time-saving and effective features for content-rich productions.

If you’ve been debating whether to upgrade to the original Mavic 3, but have been put off by the cost, the new Classic drone could be just what you’re looking for. Not only does it save you plenty of cash for buying an extra DJI Mavic 3 Intelligent Flight Battery or two, but it offers the same impeccable image quality across 5.1K video and 20MP stills. These can be captured in RAW for photos and 10-bit D-Log profile for movies, allowing you to push and pull highlights and shadows more effectively during post production.

Low light capabilities are excellent thanks to the large 4/3 sensor which is developed with Hasselblad’s know-how. This results in natural vivid colours so you can capture glorious sunsets and darker forest scenes with a highly capable low light camera and equivalent 24mm lens.

The long flight times which last up to 46 minutes in optimal conditions are icing on the cake for creators who want to capture a variety of scenes, fly through a sunrise or explore from the air for longer.

Browse all DJI drones and compatible drone accessories to find the perfect model for your content creation or head straight to the aircraft-only Mavic 3 Classic (No RC) or top-of-the-range DJI Mavic 3 Classic (DJI RC).
