Special Edition Leica D-Lux 8 100 Years of Leica Summary
Based on the regular D-Lux 8, this special edition Leica D-Lux 8 100 Years of Leica features the same technical specifications, which are housed within a special celebratory anniversary design. This camera commemorates a century since the introduction of the original Leica I in 1925, which is widely recognised as the world’s first mass produced 35mm film camera.
The exclusive design of this compact Leica camera combines the capabilities of the regular D-Lux 8 with classic design elements inspired by the original. The design differs with its black paint finish with nickel-coloured controls and lens accents, which is taken directly from the materials and styling of the original 35mm camera that started it all.
The body also includes refined, leather-style armouring in the style of the legendary Leica M11, with a clean and understated finish that deletes the iconic red dot logo and camera model name. Instead, there’s a discreet hot shoe cover that houses the “100” anniversary logo, and there’s also no thumb grip, which further reinforces the elegant minimalist design.
Internally the camera provides identical functionality to the standard D-Lux 8, with a large Four Thirds sensor, fast DC Vario-Summilux 10.9-34mm f/1.7–2.8 ASPH. lens, and high-resolution EVF. The result is a collector’s edition that keeps the full creative capability for modern photographers while honouring Leica’s iconic 100 year history.
Leica D-Lux 8 100 Years of Leica in More Detail
‘100’ Anniversary Logo and Nickel Finish Details
This special edition camera includes a hot shoe cover engraved with the ‘100’ anniversary logo, along with nickel-coloured finish on the lens, lens cap and controls (shutter speed dial, zoom, shutter release button). These details reflect the original Leica I from 1925.
Legendary Design with an Enjoyable User Experience
The Leica D-Lux 8 shares the same features as its larger siblings, with a simplified user interface for a more focused shooting experience. Stills and video functions are separated in the menu, and the button layout has been reduced on the rear of the camera to keep key controls accessible without any unnecessary clutter. Physical dials respond with clear feedback, while key buttons can be customised to suit your workflow.
The D-Lux 8 can be used entirely via the physical dials and buttons, or controlled through the touch display and Leica FOTOS app for remote operation and image sharing.
High-res EVF
An updated electronic viewfinder with 2.36M-dot resolution and 60fps refresh rate offers clear previews in most lighting conditions. It includes 0.74x magnification, a 20mm eye point, dioptre adjustment, and an eye sensor for seamless switching between LCD and EVF. The LCD is a 3.0” TFT panel with 1.84M dots and a 3:2 aspect ratio.
Excellent Image Quality
The large Four Thirds sensor works with the fast DC Vario-Summilux 10.9–34mm f/1.7–2.8 ASPH. lens to produce clean, detailed images in a range of lighting conditions. Real optical bokeh, fine texture and colour accuracy are rendered with more subtlety than a smartphone. Even at full zoom, the lens retains image sharpness and clarity, while macro mode supports close-ups from as little as 3cm (wide) to 30cm (telephoto).
The inclusion of DNG RAW files offers greater flexibility in post-processing, enabling detailed shadow and highlight recovery and precise colour grading.
Up to 11fps Burst Shooting
The D-Lux 8 captures up to 11fps in DNG format for around one second, or longer bursts in JPEG mode. This makes it suitable for candid moments, family events, or fast-changing scenes.
