Peak Design is well known for an extensive range of camera and travel bags, tripods and camera accessories, which we explore today in our Peak Design Cuff Leather Wrist Strap Review. Could this be the ultimate wrist strap for your needs? What is a camera wrist strap anyway? Join us as we explore these and other questions in our mini hands-on review that revolves around real world testing during a week long photo trip, made during an Everyday Backpack 20L review.

Before beginning, I should mention that I own two of the original Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Straps in Black, which are invaluable not just for my own camera, but for the ones I have on loan for gear reviews. However, today we're looking at the new Cuff leather wrist strap, which includes updated hardware and a full-grain leather design.
The two straps are pictured side by side here so you can see the differences between them, which include size, weight, and the styling. But before diving in, we discuss why a wrist strap makes such good sense for so many photographers.

A wrist strap is an easy way of securing a camera to avoid accidental drops, while also allowing complete freedom of movement. They are best suited to smaller camera systems, but I have used my own strap on larger DSLRs like the Nikon D850, which worked perfectly well.
Where neck straps can be quite cumbersome, the Peak Design Cuff is small, discreet, and quick to use. I shoot with a tripod quite frequently too, which is straightforward with this kind of compact strap, as it can be left on the camera body in situations where a neck strap would otherwise flap around.
Alternatively, it's simple to release and magnetically forms a wristband for stowing when not in use, leading us to the main features you can expect.

Over the years, Peak Design has refined the Cuff design, but much like their bags, functionality remains essentially the same from one generation to the next. This is because the design is already so functional, with features that provide a range of benefits, such as:
I like the newly designed Cuff Leather, which is definitely slimmer, lighter, and more streamlined than my older version, bringing us neatly onto the design, materials and expected durability.

Peak Design is clearly an eco-conscious company, and they've used premium leather for the Cuff that adheres to the highest levels of environmental practice. This encompasses water and energy consumption, chemical handling, emissions, and hide traceability.
The inside of the leather is sealed to prevent friction, and this attention to detail carries over to other elements, such as the recycled aluminium Anchor Link fasteners, corrosion-resistant springs, and premium aluminium hardware throughout.
If you're looking for durability, look no further. This certainly looks and feels like a premium accessory, which it really is.
With that said, there were some minor drawbacks, and I personally found the new ultra-slim Anchors a little more fiddly to release compared to the larger originals. They also seemed to get twisted more easily, although the connector is very short so this was simple to reverse.
Aside from that it's business as usual, with a very effective, quick, and stylish way to secure your camera without needing a full neck strap.
There are plenty of designs, materials, and colours to choose from in the range, so whether you're a vegan, a compact camera user, or an everyday photographer, you can secure your camera effectively and match the colour of your other equipment with a Peak Design Cuff.
With such a proven range, extensively field-tested by photographers worldwide, the Cuff is rightly extremely popular. This newer Leather version adds a premium tier to the range, with smooth full-grain leather in three colours, recycled materials, and the latest hardware. While it's not perfect, this is by far the best system I've used for safeguarding my camera, allowing me to get on with shooting without a second thought.
