Follow subject improved tracking on Osmo Pocket 4

What content is the Pocket 4 good for?

With such a lightweight, pocketable size and advanced content modes, DJI Osmo Pocket cameras have become incredibly popular for everyday content creation. You can bring them anywhere and capture stunning, stabilised 4K video that actively follows you around the scene, which is especially useful when tripod mounted.

This allows you to capture a wide variety of content, such as:

  • Everyday moments including time at home with family or when out and about with friends
  • Travel and landscapes where you can record scenes with stabilised footage, with the option to adjust colour in post if needed
  • City and street video with handheld 4K in urban environments, keeping footage steady and your subjects in focus
  • On-the-go filming with a small 4K camera you can carry all day and record whenever something interesting happens
  • Professional content creation and livestreaming. The DJI Osmo Pocket allows you to set up quickly for solo filming, and features tracking, 3-axis stabilisation and external audio for professional results when required.

Compact cameras like this series are popular because they combine portability with great image quality, offering better ergonomics than a smartphone while being very easy to carry. For a broader look at what makes a good vlogging camera, see this guide from DPReview.

Using the black mist filter from Pocket 3

Can you use Pocket 3 accessories?

Yes. The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is supported by a range of versatile action camera accessories, including new options just for this generation. It is also compatible with many existing Osmo Pocket 3 accessories, allowing current users to continue with existing gear when upgrading.

What are the best DJI Osmo Pocket 4 accessories?

Some of the best accessories for the camera include a Pocket 4 Fill Light, which attaches magnetically, features adjustable brightness and colour temperature, and provides consistent illumination for close subjects.

From the previous generation, you can use the magnetic Osmo Pocket 3 Wide-Angle Lens, which is a brilliant addition and included with the Combo. The lens opens up a wider field of view for more in the frame, which can be useful for everything from landscapes and city shots to vlogs.

The Pocket Black Mist Filter is another excellent optional accessory, allowing you to influence bright recording situations while creating soft, flattering skin tones and a more cinematic effect.

Lastly, if you tend to record for longer or while away from a power source, we recommend the Pocket 3 Battery Handle. This convenient device has a built-in 950 mAh battery, extending recording times on the Pocket 4, which are already improved, providing durable recording for busy creators.

One accessory you could arguably skip is a microSD memory card, thanks to the newly built-in memory. That leads us to whether you should upgrade if you already own Pocket 3, which we investigate next.

Should you upgrade from Pocket 3?

If you already have the Pocket 3, the design and handling of DJI Osmo Pocket 4 will feel familiar, and it does provide some significant improvements that make a compelling upgrade. These include 4K/240fps for stylised 8x slow motion, improved low light with wider dynamic range, built-in storage and faster transfer speeds, along with new physical controls.

These all contribute to making better content more easily, with more refined results, especially when capturing footage during dawn, dusk, or indoors where light is typically lower.

Updated ActiveTrack 7.0 and improvements to autofocus and subject tracking benefit anyone who makes more advanced content for their audience. If you are happy with 4K/120fps and your current workflow isn’t slowing you down, the upgrade is less essential. However, for those looking for improved slow motion, a faster workflow and more control, the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is a very capable option.

Reserve the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 or Pocket 4 Creator Combo today and take your solo video recording to new heights with this refined 4K pocket camera.
