ZEISS Secacam 3 Wide-Angle Camera Summary

The ZEISS Secacam 3 Wide-Angle Camera is a cellular trail camera for wildlife observation and remote monitoring across gardens, woodland and conservation areas. It forms part of the ZEISS Secacam range and sits alongside the standard Secacam 3 model, using the same hardware platform, connectivity system and operating workflow.

The key difference is a wider 100° field of view compared with 60° on the regular Secacam 3, which records a broader section of the environment in each image or video. This wider coverage helps when monitoring feeding sites, animal paths or open areas where wildlife may approach from multiple directions.

The camera records motion-triggered images and video and transmits files through the ZEISS Secacam mobile network system for remote viewing in the ZEISS Secacam App. With the same housing, power system and setup process as the existing model, the wide-angle version integrates easily into existing Secacam installations for wildlife observation, land management monitoring and environmental recording.

Overview and Key Differences

The ZEISS Secacam 3 Wide-Angle Camera uses the same electronics, connectivity system and operating interface as the standard Secacam 3. The primary difference is the wider viewing angle.

The standard Secacam 3 records a 60° field of view, while the wide-angle version expands coverage to 100°, allowing a significantly larger portion of the environment to appear within each frame.

This wider scene coverage helps when monitoring open terrain, feeding stations or wildlife trails where animals may enter the frame from different directions. It also reduces the need to reposition the camera when covering wider areas.

All other functions remain consistent with the Secacam 3 platform, including LTE image transmission, motion-trigger recording, infrared night capture and outdoor housing design.

ZEISS Secacam 3 Wide-Angle Camera In More Detail

Wide-angle monitoring

The defining difference between this model and the standard Secacam 3 is the wider 100° field of view. A broader portion of the landscape appears in each frame, which increases the observable monitoring area from a single camera position.

This wider coverage helps when observing animal trails, feeding areas or clearings where wildlife may move unpredictably through the environment. The camera records activity occurring across a larger part of the scene, which can reduce the need for precise camera alignment during installation.

Motion detection with PIR Fresnel lens

The Secacam 3 Wide-Angle Camera activates automatically when movement occurs within the detection area. Motion detection relies on a PIR sensor combined with a Fresnel lens system which expands the detection zone across the viewing area.

This configuration allows the camera to recognise movement across the wider field of view and trigger recording when animals pass through the monitored scene.

Infrared night recording

Wildlife activity frequently occurs during low-light conditions or after dark. The camera uses 60 No-Glow infrared LEDs which illuminate the scene without producing visible light.

This allows the camera to record animals during the night while remaining unobtrusive in natural environments. The infrared system activates automatically when ambient light levels fall.

Cellular image transmission

Captured images and videos transmit through the integrated LTE module using a multi-roaming SIM that automatically connects to the strongest available network.

Files transfer directly to the ZEISS Secacam App, allowing users to monitor activity remotely without visiting the camera location. This is particularly useful for long-term wildlife observation in remote woodland, farmland or conservation areas.

Camera setup and close-range recording

A 1.9-inch tiltable display provides a live view of the camera scene during setup. This helps users align the camera accurately when mounting it to a tree or post.

The TEST button sends a trial image directly to the ZEISS Secacam App to confirm signal strength and transmission before leaving the installation site.

The wide-angle lens also supports close-range recording down to approximately 30 cm, which allows clear capture of subjects positioned near the camera.

Efficient video transmission

Video recording uses H.265 compression, which reduces file size compared with older formats. Smaller files transmit more efficiently through the mobile network while maintaining image quality suitable for wildlife monitoring.

Outdoor operation

The camera housing carries an IP66 weather protection rating, allowing operation in rain, dust and changing outdoor conditions.

Operating temperatures range from −25 °C to +65 °C, supporting year-round use in varied climates.
