Sitting just below the XA75 is this Canon XA70 4K UHD Camcorder, which offers professional 4K video recording and outstanding oversampled HD processing from the full 1.0-inch Type CMOS 4K sensor. Canon has included their fast DIGIC DV6 image processor and the versatile 4K 15x optical zoom lens, which provides a wide to telephoto 25.5-382mm (35mm equivalent) zoom range.
The sensor features Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF with face detection and tracking, which delivers speed and accuracy when using the autofocus system. You can capture movies in XF-AVC or MP4 recording formats and footage is stabilised through 5-axis Optical IS as well as when using the digital zoom feature.
HD livestream video in UVC via USB-C over a computer is possible, as is the ability to capture footage and record or share it later in either XF-AVC or MP4 formats.

Compact professional 4K UHD camcorder
Canon’s XA70 pro camcorder enables you to capture beautiful 4K UHD and high quality Full HD oversampled movies, thanks to a 1.0-inch Type CMOS 4K sensor which is paired with Canon’s DIGIC DV6 image processor. Oversampled HD processing delivers Full HD images from the entire sensor, and recording speeds include MP4 at up to 150Mbps and XF-AVC up to 160Mbps.
15x optical 4K Canon zoom lens
Canon’s 15x optical zoom lens covers a wide to telephoto range, with an equivalent 25.5-382mm (full-frame format), as well as a digital zoom, which boosts to 300x and harnesses 5-axis image stabilisation.
Quick and accurate focusing
Adjustable focusing speeds and advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF deliver fast and precise focusing with the XA70. You can use the 3.5-inch LCD display to set focus by touching the AF point required, while Face Detection AF and Face Tracking are available while Manual Focus is set via the focus/zoom ring.
Record with XF-AVC and MP4
Choose between XF-AVC or MP4 recording formats to record XF-AVC 4K UHD 160Mbps at 25P, plus Full HD 45Mbps at 50P/50i/25P. For smaller files, record MP4 4K 150Mbps at 25P and Full HD 35Mbps or 17Mbps at 50P/25P.
Professional connectivity
Output options include simultaneous backup and relay recording via dual SD card and Infrared mode. A specialist record Slow Motion mode in Full HD 0.5x or Fast Motion in 4K/Full HD up to 1200x are also available. Colour match with other Canon cameras via the custom picture menu.
Livestream and more
Stream HD footage via UVC over a computer or add a date and time stamp with OSD recording. Two XLR terminals on a detachable handle plus 4-channel linear PCM bring pro audio options with external microphones and other video accessories.

Our Verdict
The addition of the Canon XA70 to the pro Canon camcorder range combines professional features including live-streaming via USB-C with a computer, into a portable camcorder for videography, ENG and more. A 1.0-inch 4K sensor is capable of recording XF-AVC 4K UHD 160Mbps at 25P, as well as oversampled HD using the full sensor area. Canon has also included their quick and accurate Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which includes face detection and face tracking to keep your subject pin sharp even when moving across the frame.
5-axis optical stabilisation helps to keep footage smooth which works seamlessly with Canon’s optical zoom lens. This offers an equivalent full-frame focal range of 25.5-382mm enabling you to capture video from within tight spaces to far more distant subjects. Professional audio can be recorded using two the two XLR terminals, which are found in the detachable handle, and 4-channel linear PCM provides a digital representation of the analog signal. Image quality is consistently high as expected from the professional Canon camcorder, with a range of video options to suit. If you don’t need 3G-SDI output the XA70 makes perfect sense over the XA75 as the two cameras are identical in virtually every way.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
