Breaking News: Sigma Launches Native Canon RF Mount Lenses

In exciting news for Spring 2024, Sigma announces the launch of six native interchangeable APS-C lenses for the Canon RF mount.

On Tuesday 23rd April 2024 Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki unveiled the forthcoming release of Sigma lenses designed specifically for the Canon RF Mount system. This new development enables photographers to directly utilise Sigma’s high-performance optics with Canon mirrorless cameras.

The initial release will feature six lenses tailored for crop-sensor cameras (details below), and you can register your interest today in order to be amongst the first in the UK to hear more about these lens launches.

  1. Launch July 2024: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF-S
  2. Launch autumn 2024 onwards: Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF-S
  3. Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF-S
  4. Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF-S
  5. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF-S
  6. Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Canon RF-S

It’s coming up to six years since the RF system launched and this is the first time Canon has authorised third party manufacturers to design AF lenses for the system. This is huge news for the RF system and heralds a new era for Canon mirrorless creators, who will have a number of new options to choose between, from one of the world’s best known manufacturers.

Which Sigma lenses will be available for Canon RF?

For the initial rollout, Sigma is set to introduce APS-C lenses for the Canon RF mount, beginning with the 18-50mm standard zoom lens slated for release in July 2024. This will be followed by the ultra-wide 10-24mm lens, expected to launch in the autumn of the same year.

Both lenses are part of Sigma's Contemporary range, known for combining affordability with high optical performance and lightweight portability. With equivalent full-frame focal lengths of approximately 27-75mm for the 18-50mm and 15-27mm for the 10-24mm, these lenses offer great versatility for both stills and video content, and are poised to become valuable additions for Canon RF-S creators.

Full-frame RF users will have to sit tight to discover when Sigma will release its highly acclaimed Art Series lenses or Sports series telephoto options for their cameras. However, the introduction of Sigma's APS-C lenses is promising news for those using crop format Canon cameras, such as the Canon EOS R7, EOS R100, R50, or R10. This development ensures that these photographers can access high-quality, versatile lenses designed specifically for their cameras.
