Why is an f/2.8 aperture good for photography?

When shooting with a wide (or fast) aperture setting, you can achieve a shallower depth of field, which creates images with a defined subject against a blurred background. It also provides better performance in low light situations, enabling sharp images without having to set a high ISO.

Furthermore, this Tamron lens includes a 9-bladed aperture diaphragm, which creates nice circular bokeh balls that can look especially appealing in certain situations.
