On the day, you’ll be able to experience the new expanded range of optics available from Park Cameras, to help you make the most of getting outdoors this summer! In addition to being able to touch and try many products in our state-of-the-art store, at this event we’ll have an outdoor area available where you’ll be able to get further help and advice and to try out a range of products designed to help you get up close with nature.

Upon visiting Park Cameras on the 29th April, you’ll be able see a varied selection of birds of prey. You’ll be able to get up close to this range of magnificent birds, including a Bald Eagle, Bateleur Eagle, Chilean Blue Eagle, a Harris Hawk, a Peregrine Falcon, a Hybrid falcon, a Spectacled Owl, an Ashy-faced Owl and a Northern Hawk Owl*; all to allow you to take advantage of our range of outdoor stands and test out the latest gear from some of the largest camera and optic brands.

If you’re bringing your camera, ensure you bring some memory, as you’ll be able to take photos for you to take away and keep! Wildlife experts from The Falconry Centre will also be available to teach you more about the variety of birds that we’ll have on display.

Join Park Cameras Ambassador Andy Rouse for a 60-minute session to learn how he captures breath-taking shots in the wild using cameras including the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II.

Using some of his most recent and evocative work on tigers, lemurs and owls, Andy will analyse his images from both a technical and aesthetic standpoint, sharing with you his tips and tricks to get the best out of the kit that you use. The emphasis will be on getting good images in-camera, rather than using post processing. Andy will also be showing some of his recent video work and why he is moving more into multimedia.

Also within this 60-minute session Andy will show you a selection of his favourite shots for the year, and will allow you to discover the story behind the shot! He’ll describe the different equipment that he used to capture these fantastic shots, to hopefully inspire you to improve your wildlife photography.

Throughout the session there will be plenty of time to have your questions answered – plus there will be an opportunity after the session to speak to Andy or a representative from Natural World Safaris about their forthcoming Antarctica expedition cruise.

As a highly talented and multi award-winning photographer, Andy has been in the trusted position as a Canon Explorer for a number years, and as such has been able to use his experience and passion for photography to test out the EOS-1D X Mark II, feeding back information, and test shots / videos back to Canon Europe to assist with the development of the product. There is therefore, no-one better to guide you through the camera, and to inspire your photography.

Introduction to Wildlife Photography

Introduction to Macro Photography with Wild Arena | 10:00am OR 2:00pm

Join Park Cameras and Nature Imaging Experts Wild Arena for this 2 ½ hour introduction to Macro Photography.

This session is a great way of getting started with this fascinating area of photography. The session will include an introductory presentation that aims to cover the basic questions and difficulties surrounding macro photography. From there a variety of topics will be covered including, the choice & use of macro lenses, keeping things in focus & the creative use of depth-of-field, managing movement in the images with shutter speeds and the correct use of other related accessories.

Within this session there will be a ‘hands-on’ practical demonstration of techniques where attendees will have the chance to try and capture their own images of some great close-up subjects brought along especially for the day. Subjects will include flowers and plants but also some fascinating smaller creatures like Stick Insects, Praying Mantis, Rainbow Beetle, Painted Grass Hoppers, Geckos and Tree Frogs*. These subjects will be available to photograph with a choice of either continuous light or flash light, which Wild Arena will bring along and demonstrate.

This session is ideally suited to customers using DSLR cameras and there will be a range of Canon fit macro lenses to try out on the day if you do not already own one. Please ensure you bring a memory card with you so that all the images you shoot can be taken away for you to keep!
With small group sizes of a maximum of 8 delegates this is great value for those photographers wishing to develop their skills in macro and close-up.

Technology & the Boundaries of Wildlife Photography with Will Burrard-Lucas | 10:50am - 11:50am

From high-quality camera traps to the low-light ability of the latest digital cameras, find out how technology is allowing photographers of any level to push the boundaries of wildlife photography.

In this talk, wildlife photographer and innovator Will Burrard-Lucas will share the journey he has taken as he seeks to capture fresh perspectives and reveal the natural world in new ways.

Learn how his work has required him to push the equipment he uses to its limits, and why he now does much of his shooting with a Sony a7R II. He will also demonstrate some of the innovative devices he has created to help him achieve his images, including a high-quality camera trap set-up and his remote-control BeetleCam.

Will’s talk will be illustrated throughout with inspiring images from his projects in Africa and beyond.

A new approach to wildlife photography with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 system with Tesni Ward | 11:30am - 12:30pm

Join Wildlife and Nature Photographer Tesni Ward at Park Cameras in Burgess Hill as she discusses how moving over to the Olympus OM-D E-M1 system from Canon almost a decade ago, has allowed her to take a new approach in wildlife photography.

Within this 60-minute session, Tesni will discuss a number of tips and tricks on how to get the most out of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 system when working with animals and nature.

Tesni regularly works on projects with specific species of animal which has helped her develop a deep appreciated and understanding of them. She has then used this knowledge to help raise awareness. Tesni also works with members of the public around the country not only to help others capture beatuifil images and teach individuals the art of photography, but also to give them the opportunity to experience how magical the natural world is.

Join professional wildlife photographer Jason Wharam for a 60-minute talk on what you should look for when on safari, sharing a range of hints and tips to help you obtain even greater shots – with less hassle.

Jason will give you a better understanding to what the guides look for when out on safari, which will hopefully increase your chances of getting some great shots.

During the session, Jason will share the range of kit that he uses whilst out on a shoot, with plenty of opportunity to have your questions answered.

Jason has travelled extensively in Africa and is a very keen photographer, having some of his pictures published in well-known travel and outdoor magazines such as Getaway. His speciality was in tailor made safaris, and guiding small select groups and families through Africa’s most remote places. Whether it be Botswana’s Famous National Parks, Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, or down the Wild Zambezi on walking and canoeing safaris. Jason’s passion and excitement for Africa’s bush and its wildlife is contagious and rubs off on all that travel with him in search of an authentic African experience.

In addition to this, bird expert and Digiscoper Justin Carr will be on the stand showing how you can use the Sony a7 with a spotting scope to get some fantastic results. Justin has had a fascination with all Nature since the age of 12, in particular Birds. This love for all creatures’ great and small soon sparked an interest in Photography. Justin has 20 years of experience in Digiscoping and general photography and gets a real buzz from passing on his knowledge of this fascinating side of photography to others.
