Straight off the mark in 2012 Nikon launches a new flagship camera described as a “Multimedia DSLR” - the Nikon D4. It is built to offer high levels of video capability alongside Nikon’s established reputation for exceptional image quality. The D4 is a multi skilled device capable of outstanding video quality appealing to the needs of professional photographers and videographers alike.
Offering 16.2 Megapixel resolution from a Full Frame Sensor and capable of shooting at 10fps with full autofocus (11fps in FX mode with AF and exposure locked), the Nikon D4 can capture fast moving imagery, teamed with this is the ability to grab 2.5MP stills at 24fps. The capacity to capture stills at this rate comes thanks to new Kevlar/Carbon Fibre composite shutter blades rated to 400,000 actuations offering flash synchronisation to 1/250th of a second.
The video recording is capable in FX or DX mode in native Full HD, also offering uncompressed HDMI output to external devices. This links up with a new High-fidelity audio control system, offering microphone in, headphone out, allowing you to fine tune audio in isolation also incorporating an input setting for PCM linear recorders. This superior performance is all thanks to Nikon’s EXPEED 3 image processing engine capable of 14-bit A/D conversion and 16-bit image processing generating supreme image tonal progression.
Optimising the new still and video technology is a substantial increase in the camera metering system, Nikon have upgraded their 3D colour Matrix Metering system to a 91’000 pixel system that not only increases exposure accuracy but also benefits the cameras other systems such as AF Tracking, WB and Active D-Lighting. The latter offering video users a fantastic way to neutralise harsh shadows while shooting in challenging lighting environments.
Using dual card slots the Nikon D4 is the first camera available that can shoot and record to high speed CF (UDMA 7) cards along with XQD offering a theoretical limit of 2TB capacity and 500MB/per seconds read and 125MB/ per seconds write speeds. The Nikon D4 will offer videographers the first capability to capture and transfer their files at a substantially increased rate with an equally impressive jump in potential maximum capacity.
First deliveries of the Nikon D4 are expected around the middle of February 2012. For more information or to place a pre-order on this extraordinary camera please visit our dedicated Nikon D4 product page or call a member of our team on 01444 23 70 70.
