The Canon EOS 60D is an exciting edition to the EOS range which replaces the semi professional aimed EOS 50D. Like its predecessor the Canon EOS 60D is built around an APC-C sensor but with a newly developed 18 megapixel CMOS sensor allowing you to capture professional quality images in a new lightweight body.

Canon continues their dominance of the DSLR market and the 60D sets a very high standard for the prosumer level cameras.

Lightweight Camera But With Professional Image Quality

The Canon EOS 60D now sits more comfortably between its siblings, the Canon EOS 550D and EOS 7D. Sharing many of the key features of these two cameras, the EOS 60D fuses these two with the already impressive features of the EOS 50D.

The EOS 60D now has a 3.0 inch high resolution vari-angle LCD, the first Canon digital SLR to incorporate this. In fact it’s the same screen in the Canon EOS 550D and packed with an impressive 1040K pixels giving HD quality life light results! This will not only make you photos look better but will also help with focusing in live view and any movie recording.

Canon have kept the same autofocus used in the previous EOS 50D due to its high speed and reliability but taken the metering originally designed for the EOS 7D and thrown it into the mix.

In Camera Editing

One of the most exciting new features found in the Canon EOS 60D is its ability to edit in camera. Rather than having to spend time downloading and editing on a computer the Canon EOS 60D can edit any image captured in RAW and not only adjust the brightness, contrast and white balance but also correct any lens distortion or chromatic aberrations.

HD Movie

Like both the Canon EOS 7D and EOS 550D the 60D now gains all the movie abilities of the EOS 7D, giving full 1080p recording with frame rates up to 60fps! Another new feature Movie Crop is perfect for those doing any telephoto work, this effectively gives you a magnification of 7x (rather than the normal 1.6x) making it ideal for any wildlife or digi-scoping use.

No Limits

In an effort to both reduce the size and make it easier for those wanting to upgrade from the EOS 1000D, 500D or 550D the EOS 60D now uses SD cards rather than the large and expensive Compact Flash cards.
The Canon EOS 60D is the first Canon digital SLR that can use SDXC cards, with 64GB cards already available from Sandisk this card format will have a limit of 2TB! Not only can the EOS 60D work with large SDXC cards but when using the Eye-Fi cards the camera can use the Eye-Fi connect feature like that built into the EOS 550D. This allows you to connect to any local Wifi networks and also turn off the Wifi to save battery life.

The Canon EOS 60D is much closer to the 550D than to the 7D in design but now incorporates more of the technology than ever before! For those wanting a professional camera the Canon EOS 60D isn’t it, for those wanting professional image quality then you need look no further.
