About the EOS 5d Mark II : Reasons why the 5d rules its class.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is established very solidly as both a professional stills camera AND video camera due to it offering the highest available image quality from a 35mm based system in a compact body, with excellent low light performance and at a relatively affordable price.

The FULL FRAME CMOS sensor, at 21 million pixels, offers the same file sizes as a flagship EOS 1Ds camera yet also delivers High Definition quality video with the benefit of L series lenses.

The low light performance is of exceptional interest where Canon have increased the amount of light that each photosite of the image sensor recieves using their new microlens arrangement.

This may seem like marketing speak but just look at the expanded range of ISO settings to see the improvements, making this camera often the choice for work in clubs, venues and theatres. In fact the higher ISO settings could go up to 3200 when boosted. The 5d Mark II has a higher iso setting of 25,600.

The professional video community has also adopted the 5d mark II as a weapon of choice, with even an entire episode (in fact the season finale) of the hit 20 Emmy award nominations US TV drama 'House' being filmed entirely using the EOS 5d Mark II and EF lenses system.
